Mt Garfield 7-29-2019
The ascent to Mount Garfield began at 3:30 AM – it was a night hike for the first two hours. For our first night hike it was great – air was cool – no mosquitos, everything was quiet and I believe it was even safer since the kids were probably a bit nervous. Garfield Trail was long and easy. There were limited views on the trail, it was a green tube. The last .02 miles of the trail were steep, but not that bad. The views at the top were amazing. We hit the summit around 6:45 and it had rained the night before, there was fog rolling in between the valleys, literally felt as if we were in the clouds. There was an old fire tower at the summit that we took shelter in, it was cold and windy. We hung out at the summit for about 45 minutes until we were too uncomfortable with the cold and headed back down. Total book time was under 6 hours. All agreed that the views from the top were the best. Clear view of Lafayette to the west, Owl’s Head to the South and the Bonds. The Twins were to our immediate east, but were covered in fog.
