I am writing this post nearly two years after we climbed Mt. Washington, looking back at the climb and having climbed the Bonds, Flume and Liberty, I don’t think the climb was all that bad considering the elevation. We started out at Pinkham Notch around 9 AM and took Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Lions head Trail.
The weather was great and cooperated until we reached the summit. The trail itself was a steady climb of rock and gravel. We stopped at the Hermit Lake Shelters and took a break and looked at Tuckerman’s Ravine for a while. We then headed out to Lions Head Trail which took us to the summit of Mt. Washington.
The last push is tough mainly because you can see the summit, the observatory which makes you think you are close, however, you have to climb, rather rock hop, up large granite rocks to the summit. It was a bit nerve racking because as we climbed to the summit, rain clouds rolled in and the winds picked up. We made it to the summit and decided to hike down the auto road. We were spent from climbing up the rocks at the end, we figured the auto road was the way to go and best part – we were picked up about 4 miles down and got a ride the rest of the way. Great day overall!
